Generously constructed by Elbakidze New York.
Designed by Nicholas V. Elbakidze.
ABOUT BORJGALI
This land will be reclaimed by the community as Borjgali serves as a public garden and park for its residents while serving the important and much-needed role of a publicly engaged memorial for the roughly 250,000 men, women, and children who were displaced from their homeland and the 30,000 who were killed by Abkhaz Separatist and Russian Federation forces between 1991-1998 during the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict resulting in the Ethnic Cleansing of Georgians in Abkhazia (Chervonnaya, Svetlana (1994), Conflict in the Caucasus: Georgia, Abkhazia and the Russian Shadow, translated by Ariane Chanturia, Glastonbury, United Kingdom). The memorial will be made of 30 individual 15-foot pine trees, native to both New York and Abkhaz. These trees come together to create the historical symbol of "Borjgali", a Georgian symbol of the Sun with seven rotating wings used for thousands of years to symbolize the passage and forgiveness of time.
